Who I Am
I'm John Ecks. My website address is: https://johnecks.com/
What personal data I collect and why I collect it
In general, none of your personal data is collected on my site since you can't register an account or login. The only data I could receive from you that is personal is data you decide to send me through the contact form.
If you contact me through the website contact form, any information you type into it will be sent to me in an email. I don't store this information anywhere else on my server, short of where it keeps IMAP emails. Please do not send me any personal information, such as your phone number(s) or addresse(s), unless you are contacting me for business purposes and desire to disclose such information to me. Especially don't send me your SS#, credit card info, etc., as there is no reason I need it and doing so would be highly stupid.
If you visit our login page, which you shouldn't since you can't login or create an account, the website software will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
This site does use Google Analytics, which may use its own cookies for tracking analytics data. More about Analytics below.
Embedded content from other websites
Pages on this site may include embedded content (e.g. YouTube videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
Google Analytics is used on this website to provide information about how people use the site so I can improve it—such as, what pages get the most traffic, what browsers and locations users are accessing the site from, etc. This data is stored in the Google Analytics system and is NOT shared with any other 3rd party.
How long we retain your data
I don't collect any personal data from those who visit this website. If you send me an email using the contact form, I may save that email indefinitely, so only include information you are comfortable sharing.
What rights you have over your data
You can request that I erase any personal data I hold about you that you may have sent. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where I send your data
Information you put into the contact form may be checked through an automated spam detection service via the website software or my dedicated server. The Google tracking code will send non-personal information to the Google Analytics system.
Your contact information
In a nutshell, any information you explicitly send to me (via the contact form or a direct email), you are giving me the right to do with the content of that email as I wish—be it for commercial purposes or not—including posting it to social media websites if I decide to. However, I will not post any of your personal information (Name, email address, phone number) publicly. I may post your social media handle IF you provide it to me. If your message is kind, insane, or particularly goofy, or not, I may choose to post the content of it on this site or another website. If it is threatening, I may contact the police.
In general, I don't post things publicly that people send me, but I may choose to include them in my creative work if they are particularly noteworthy.
How I protect your data
I have additional security setup on my server to try and avoid 3rd parties hacking into it or intercepting the data. My website runs exclusively through https with SSL to encrypt all data sent and received from the website.
